UKRAINE RESPONSE OPEN CALL FOR PROPOSALS

Veterinarians without Borders / Vétérinaires sans Frontières - Canada (VWB Canada) has worked internationally and domestically in Canada since 2005, responding to emergencies and providing remote animal health services to communities in need. Our model has been through localization, and sustainably building the capacity of local partners in developmental and humanitarian contexts to support animal health needs.

Dog on street in Ukraine

The war in Ukraine has powerfully and painfully magnified the animal-human bond, lifting animals up as key beneficiaries, not to be left behind, and central to response operations. When the war broke out, VWB Canada took a two-pronged response approach focusing within Ukraine and along the bordering countries.

VWB Canada started to support Ukrainian animal initiatives in March 2022 and continues to support several partners with funds to provide animal food and veterinarian care. WVB also deployed veterinarians in bordering countries to support displaced animals.

General Information about the Call

Considering the wide range of challenges brought to Ukraine by war and a variety of existing animal welfare initiatives, which are tirelessly working to help animals, VWB decided to expand its partner's network and provide emergency funding to more Ukrainian organizations.

This Call for Proposals focuses on supporting animal welfare activities within Ukraine with the purpose of providing emergency funds to help animals in need.

Project proposals submitted for this Call should help respond to the urgent needs of animals and pet owners impacted by the war in Ukraine.

Emergency response to existing animal needs could be provided in different ways: critical rescue and emergency sheltering services, veterinary care, pet food delivery, and more.  VWB appreciates a tailored approach and encourages organizations to think about the most effective solutions on the ground.

As a result of this Call, VWB plans to support at least five projects up to 10,000 Canadian Dollars each.

The geography of the projects is limited to Ukraine (initiatives implemented in other countries will not be supported under this call)

Under this Grant Call, VWB/VSF expects project proposals from the Ukrainian registered public and charitable organizations, and other non-profits. Applications submitted on behalf of individuals, commercial organizations, government agencies, political parties, or religious organizations will not be considered

It is expected that the duration of the proposed projects will not exceed four months. The implementation of the project shall be planned for September 2022

The deadline for submission of project proposals is August 31, 2022.
