Our AGROW program focuses on climate-smart farming, agricultural best practices, and related income-generating work for women in rural communities.

AGROW is a three-year program aimed at enhancing the resilience of women and girls through animal, human, and environmental health (One Health) in three districts of Cambodia’s Battambang province (i.e., Rattankakmondul, Banan, and Ek Phnom Districts).

AGROW employs innovative approaches to environmentally sustainable food production and farm diversification with a focus on cricket, chicken, and cattle farming as well as fodder crop management and vegetable production.

In total, AGROW will reach a total of 66,845 women and men in 3 districts and 48 villages.

Primary objectives:

  • To improve environmentally sustainable / green agriculture and nutrition of women and women-led groups.
  • To strengthen the economic security from environmentally sustainable / green agriculture and livestock-based production of women and girls.

Key project activities:

  • Training Village Animal Health Workers (VAHWs) and providing them with veterinary toolkits.
  • Training farmers and communities in green agriculture and diversification to maximize nutrient uptake.
  • Establishing One Health Demonstration Sites (i.e., also known as Farmer Field Schools) to showcase environmentally sustainable and climate-smart crop, insect, and livestock production.
  • Distributing crop and livestock starter kits (e.g., cricket eggs, seeds, chickens, cattle) to ease women’s burden.
  • Conducting vaccination and deworming programs for poultry and cattle in strategic locations.
  • Training agricultural cooperatives to develop technical and organizational skills to support green value-addition.
  • Providing leadership training to women leaders and members of cooperatives.
