Veterinarians Without Borders North America/Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Amérique du Nord (VWB/VSF) announces holiday raffle – one grand prize of a round-trip flight for two guests via WestJet

OTTAWA, ON, November 9, 2023 – Just in time for the festive season, Veterinarians Without Borders North America/Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Amérique du Nord (VWB/VSF) is thrilled to announce the launch of its holiday raffle, featuring a grand prize of one roundtrip flight for two guests to any regularly scheduled and marketed WestJet destination.* Between Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023 and Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, individuals aged 18+ in Ontario can purchase raffle tickets online to be entered into the draw for the WestJet tickets. Two early bird prizes, a set of Bose noise-cancelling Bluetooth headphones and a Lenovo tablet, will be raffled on November 23, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. ET and November 30, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. ET as part of the holiday raffle. The WestJet ticket winners will be drawn on December 8, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. ET.

All raffle proceeds will support a bursary for an Ontario-based veterinary student to help increase much-needed access to veterinary care across the province, and beyond.

“As a veterinary student, paying for tuition and necessary supplies can be overwhelming,” said Dr. Michelle Tuma (DVM), VWB/VSF’s northern Canada veterinary specialist. “School can be incredibly demanding and having loans and insurmountable debt can create added stressors that really weigh on students long after they graduate,” Tuma added. “Burnout in the veterinary profession is a sad reality and, across North America, many veterinarians experience severe psychological stress. This bursary will not only provide incredible support for a student, but ensure that, once they graduate and become practicing veterinarians, they can build their careers from a stable base,” said Tuma.
