Join our expert panelists, Daria Kuznetsova, Ukraine Program Manager at VWB/VSF, and Veronica Velichko, Founder & Director of 12 Guards, who will discuss the resilience of Ukraine's animal community, share insights into the evolving landscape of veterinary care, and explore initiatives aimed at safeguarding the well-being of these silent sufferers. Together, we can explore avenues for collective action to help ensure a healthier and happier future for both humans and animals in Ukraine.

A bit about the hosts...

Daria Kuznetsova
Ukraine Program Manager, VWB/VSF
Daria joined the Veterinarians Without Borders North America/Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Amérique du Nord (VWB/VSF) team in June 2023, bringing over 7 years of experience in managing international development projects in Ukraine. Her expertise lies in fostering community cohesion, promoting civil society development, advancing regional economic growth, democratic governance, and emphasizing a strong focus on inclusion and diversity.

Daria holds an MA in East European Studies from Free University Berlin and a BA in International Relations from Kyiv International University. Prior to joining VWB/VSF, she worked in various US Government-funded programs and UN agencies.

Daria is based in Lviv, Ukraine. In her free time, she enjoys spending quality moments with her dog, family and friends, reading and traveling.

Veronica Velichko
Founder & Director, 12 Guards 
Veronica is an Advisor to the Minister of Environmental Protection of Ukraine and author of five travel guides about Ukraine. Prior to the full-scale war she was engaged in revitalization of abandoned territories and worked in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. 

Currently, she is focused on reducing the number of stray animals in Ukraine and systematic work to humanize society in relation to stray animals. She gives lectures on humane treatment of animals to children in schools, takes part in educational projects, and together with industry partners, is an ambassador of the implementation of the law on cruelty to animals.

12 Guards is one of VWB/VSF's on-the-ground partners in Ukraine, helping to implement and build capacity for animal health initiatives.
