Marieke Van Der Velden

Northern Canada Program Manager

Marieke joined Veterinarians without Borders in December 2021, with ten years of experience in the animal welfare field. Previously, Marieke has led the strategy, program development, and execution of provincial community outreach initiatives for the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA). In this role, she developed a pet food bank program that focused on partnership building with human-support services and large-scale spay/neuter programs in communities struggling with cat overpopulation.

Through developing and executing a community assessment process, she gained insights into the needs of remote Northern B.C communities in accessing veterinary care and worked with local partners and stakeholders to implement creative solutions.
